Richelle Coles, has been a hair stylist for nine years, doing my hair for the past three years. She takes great pride in her work, and always makes sure the customer is satisfied. Check her out at stylesbyro.com. Richelle agreed to let me video the steps she takes in the transformation to becoming a blonde. It takes guts for a woman of color to become blonde, and I took the plunge in June 2012. Richelle is doing a touch-up in the video. She is still following the same process that she initially used in the transformation from my dark brown hair to platinum blonde. The entire process takes approximately 45 minutes.
The transformation involves the following steps. Step 1 – the application of BW2 (Basic White), which is an extra-strength, dedusted lightener that provides colorists the ultimate creative control over the lightening process. Richelle mixes BW2 with Clairoxide 40 volume weight developer. Step 2 – Richelle wraps my head with aluminum foil to retain the heat, and puts me under the dryer for approximately 20 minutes. Hair coloring is triggered by your body heat. The hotter you are, the quicker the transformation takes effect. Step 3 -removing the aluminum foil, shampoo and conditioner. Step 4 – the finished product, I’m platinum. All that remains to be done is for Richelle to tighten up my hairline.
